The battle against Ford is looming - there is little time to spare. What is going to win us this election is an empowered and excited membership. Local Riding Associations equipped with the tools they need and confidence in the Party they are working so hard for.
This is no time to stay the course. To maintain the status quo. Ontario NDP members want bold policies and an internal Party structure that is truly democratic.
A People’s Party needs to be driven by its roots. And it needs to be held accountable to the membership. Responsible governance and transparency will build trust with the Riding Associations and ensure that the will of the membership is what drives our Party, from the candidates we put forward to the issues that make up our platform, not just the Policy Book.
We can not afford to lose any more candidates, volunteers or members out of frustration with processes or feeling under-appreciated.

That's not all...we must also demand:

Creative and Meaningful Engagement:
- Travelling Town Halls and working groups on policy that include members and community based stakeholders.
- Consistent use of surveys in order to help shape Party direction and policy, not to simply gauge reaction to it.
- Improved communications: update people on work being done, provide them a tangible way to take action between and during elections. Move away from constant demands for donations with no substance.
- Use technology available to better connect members to one another year round. Enable resource sharing and build a sense of community amongst all members.
- Connect Equity Committees to better facilitate intersectional approaches to policy formation.
Support and Respect Riding Associations
- Increased autonomy for nominations. Deference goes to Riding Association search Committee results.
- A vetting process that is completely transparent, consistent with our values, and does not seek to eliminate anyone for arbitrary purposes. And an investigation into the multiple complains received from ONDP Ridings in the lead up to the 2022 Provincial Election.
- Provide accessible websites for each ridings to customize to their needs.
- Use of social media networks to amplify the work being done by local Riding Associations, MPPs.
Accountability and Transparency
- Improved communication on the inner workings of Executive and Central Office.
- A commitment to honouring deadlines and abiding by the Constitution.
- Convention: Return of ability to see speakers and participants list. A Chair chosen by the Membership.
- Vetting guidelines to be set by Committee, put in writing and communicated to Candidate Search Committees.
That's not all...we must also demand:
- Items passed at conventions are immediately incorporated into the Policy Book, that must be accessible to the public at all times. Our vision is something to be proud about.
- Ensure the election platform is centred around those very policies.
- Clear processes to file complaints within the Party.
- Facilitated lateral communication between Ridings to share resources and know-how, and to better coordinate efforts, particularly on regional issues.
- Widely accessible tools/resources that are practical for Ridings of different capacities.
